Inspired by summer holidays in Costal Maine, this handmade mug will bring the seaside to your table. Each lobster design is cut out from a piece of paper and applied onto the leather hard clay surface and then decorated with multiple layers orange and red slip to give the pieces a painterly depth to the finish. Once all of the nuanced layers of slip are painted on, the paper cut outs are removed to reveal the colour of the shapes underneath. The pulled handle is finished with a shell made from a mould of a shell found on one of my favourite Maine shores.
