Inspired by childhood summers in Maine, the lobster pattern captures the essence of summer. This hand thrown bowl and hand built tray are covered in lobster shapes which are individually cut out from paper and applied onto the clay body. Layers of orange and red slip are applied in order to give the piece a textured and painterly depth to the surface. Once all of the nuanced layers of slip are painted on, the paper cut outs are removed to reveal the lobster forms underneath.
A perfect gift for visiting friends by the the seaside or else a reminder of summer holidays in your own home, this bowl and tray are a bright, cheerful accessory for the kitchen or home. The pottery is food safe and the two piece set can be used together or as individual serving pieces for serving cheese, crudités or dips and chips.
Thrown and hand built stoneware with layers of slip and finished with a glossy glaze, 2025.
Tray Dimensions: 2cm high x 29cm long x 24.5cm wide
Bowl Dimensions: 7cm high x 10cm diameter
Each work is completely unique due to the painterly process. Any irregularities in the work are due to the making and firing process and are part of the hand-made quality of the piece.
