Oak Leaf - Handmade Ceramic Large Serving Bowl
Cascading autumn leaves grace this work evoking the changing of the seasons. My studio is located near the ancient remains of Bernwood Forest and my woodland walks are a great inspiration for me to create objects that evoke the naturalistic world and bring a bit of its magic inside to the home.
This hand built bowl is covered in leaf forms which are individually cut out from paper and applied onto the clay body. Layers of light green and dark green slip are applied in order to give the piece a textured and painterly depth to the surface. Once all of the nuanced layers of slip are painted on, the paper cut outs are removed to reveal the leaf forms underneath. The bowl has an asymmetrical rim which means that each bowl is distinctively unique.
A perfect gift for the nature lover in your life, this bowls are a bright, cheerful accessory for the kitchen or home. The large serving bowl is food safe and a great centre piece for a kitchen table but also can make a striking fruit or salad bowl.
Hand built stoneware with layers of slip and finished with a glossy glaze, 2025.
Dimensions: 7cm high x 32cm wide x 31cm deep
Each work is completely unique due to the hand made and painterly process. The image may not be an exact representation of the piece as the leaves can be placed in different positions but the image illustrates the pattern and style. This bowl is food and oven safe though I would recommend hand washing it rather than putting it in the dishwasher in order to preserve it for years to come. Any irregularities in the work are due to the making and firing process and are part of the hand-made quality of the piece.
